Dumfries & Galloway
My home county, Dumfries and Galloway has some truly breath taking scenery. The coast line stretches over 200 miles. For tourists this county boasts some world firsts. Like the worlds first Savings Bank at Ruthwell and the worlds oldest working post office in Sanquhar. For the golfers, this county plays host to many beautiful links courses.
Cumbria
Cumbria has one of the most visited tourists attractions in the UK, the Lake District. Pre-pandemic the lakes saw more than 40 million visitors. A little known fact is that the ‘Lake District’ has only 1 lake. Lake Bassenthwaite. All the other ‘fake lakes’ are actually Tarns, Meres or Waters. ‘fake’ Lake Windermere is the Longest body of water in England at 10.5 miles long.
Scottish Borders
Like its neighbouring county (D&G) the Scottish Borders has some of the most dramatic coastlines in the UK. Some of these beautiful places were used in the filming of Marvel’s Thor Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame.
North East England
Huge area for tourism. Alnwick Castle home to the 12th Duke of Northumberland, was where Harry Potter took to the sky for the first time. Alnwick is also home to ‘Lilidorei’ the biggest play structure in the world.
